- Support the Official SRWG Chat Room! -
Hey Everyone. For those of you that don't know, we have a couple IRC channels for chatting. We are a very small channel right now, I hope you guys can come support us. Depending on your timezone, you might drop in at a time where everyone is sleeping or away, so please try back another time. This chat room is about Discussion of Mecha, Anime, Video games and whatever else you might have on your mind. Our Main channel is on Aniverse in #srwg irc://irc.aniverse.com:6667/srwg Backup servers: kanami.aniverse.com Please join Our backup Network if Aniverse is having problems or you are unable to connect to Aniverse. We have these channels linked together via a channel Relay bot. So you won't miss anything by joining our backup. The bot's name is Neko, please be nice to her. :) The backup channel is on AnimeRealm in #srwg irc://irc.anime-chat.com:6667/srwg Backup servers: haruhi.anime-chat.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rules - Here are the Laws you must follow in this Channel. Channel Rules
Fserv Rules
------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Useful Commands - Here is a list of the most useful IRC commands to know. /me <action> Lets people know what you are doing. /Nick <nick> Changes your nickname /Server [-mn] <server> [port] [-j #channel pass] Manually connects to a server. (mIRC) -m switch creates a new server window for that connection and connects to the server. -n does the same thing but does not connect to the server. /Join <channel> [key] Join the specified channel. /Clear Clears the buffer of the current window. (mIRC) /Quit [reason] Disconnect from IRC with an optional message. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - General FAQ - I'm New to IRC, what do I do? First you need to get an IRC client; I highly recommend mIRC with some sort of script such as SysReset if you wish to put up an Fserv. Be sure to look at the Help file for information on how to connect to a server and channel, and to know the basic IRC commands. If you don't use mIRC, there is plenty of help you can find with a search engine. What IRC client should I use? Most people are running a windows OS with the latest version of mIRC. For Macintosh IRC client, the most popular is Ircle. If you are running a different Operating System, check a search engine for alternatives. http://www.mirc.com/ http://www.ircle.com/ What mIRC scripts should i use? This is all a matter of preference. The most popular mIRC scripts are SysReset, Polaris, GTSDLL. SysReset is highly recomended for File Serving. How do I display or input japanese text in mIRC? Win9x/ME: You need a utility called NJStar Communicator. However, it's not the most simple program ever. Try fiddling with the Multibyte & SJIS/JIS conversion. I don't exacly use Win9x anymore, so this is what I can recall from memory. http://www.njstar.com/ Win2k/XP/Vista: This site explains it better then i ever could. Although, If you set you set your system local to Japanese, you shouldn't need to set your chat window to a Japanese font. Also, XP users may want to give applocal a try. http://home.comcast.net/~kagamix2/b-games/japanese_text.html Your Mileage May Vary. How do I get voiced? Stick around, chat, and be friendly. ;) My nickname has been taken over. What can I do? If you registered you nick with Nickserv, you can use the ghost command. If the nickname is not registered, you need to wait till it is no longer in use, or it times out. What does a +/%/@/& next to someone's name mean? @/& - Channel Operator % - halfop + - Voice in the channel What is a Netsplit? A Netsplit occurs when two servers lose connection too each other, All the people one on server will lose contact with everyone from the other, this often looks like a massive disconnect. Either join the backup server or wait around and hope the split ends soon. How can I make my text appear in colour (mIRC)? 1.Type Ctrl+K 2.Type a number between 0 and 15 3.Type the word 4.Type Ctrl+K again When is the channel most active? We seem much more active then we were a few months back. According to the channel stats, the channel is most active durring these timespans. 0700-1400, 1900-2000 UTC/GMT (+0 hours) For quick reference Pacific Standerd Time = UTC/GMT -8 hours Central Standerd Time = UTC/GMT -6 hours Eastern Standerd Time = UTC/GMT -5 hours (add one hour if Daylight savings is in effect) If I remember correctly Most of asia is the same timezone. China/Philippines/Taiwan = UTC/GMT +8 hours Japan = UTC/GMT +9 hours For more timezones you might want to check out: http://www.timeanddate.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Network Services - NickServ - Allows you to "register" a nickname and prevent others from using it. Depending on the server the nickname will expire after 21-30 days if the nick is not used. How to Register your Nickname? /Nickserv REGISTER <password> [email] How do I access Nickserv commands? /Nickserv IDENTIFY <password> How to ghost your nickname? /Nickserv GHOST <nickname> [password] How do I link my nickname? Linking your nickname will allow you to share your configuration, memos, and channel privileges with all the nicknames in the group. This is different on most servers. On Aniverse And Animerealm /Link <target> <password> ChanServ - allows you to register and control various aspects of channels. Since this is mostly for operators, I will not explain this command in detail. MemoServ - Memoserv is a utility that allows you to send short messages to users whether they are online at the time or not. Both the sender nickname and the recipient nickname must be registered. You can also send Memos to a Channel, kind of like a message board. SeenServ (aniverse & animerealm) - A service for finding out information about users that were recently online. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -File Servers- How do I get a file from an Fserv? If you are using SysReset, you can simply load the fserv Tracker & Browser and let those do most of the dirty work. Using an Polaris/Sysreset style fservs is very much like a DOS/Command prompt. 1. Type !list to display all the fserves that are currently serving in the channel. (Note: typing !list with no voice will result in kick/ban. Also @find will result in kick/ban) 2. Type the trigger for the fserv you wish to look at. 3. Once you are connected to the fserv, type 'dir' or 'ls' to get a listing of the current files and folders in the root directory. 4. To navigate through different folders, type either 'cd <foldername>' to go into a new folder. To go back a folder type 'cd ..' 5. Once you find something of intrest, type 'get <filename>'. This will send the file to you immediately or place you in the queue list. 6. If you are queued, be patient the file will send eventually. Do not camp or idle inside an fserv window, the file will send as long as you stay in the channel. 7. When you are done, type 'exit' or 'quit' to leave the Fserv. For a list of other commands type 'help' How do I set up a SysReset Fserv? This is the bare minimum to set up a SysReset Fserv > Sysreset menu > File Server Manager option - > 'server config' tab - - - uncheck Ad Delay box (Ads are not allowed) - - - Set 'Max Sends', 'Max Queues', and maybe 'Max CPS/Send' to something reasonable for your connection - - - if you set 'Force Close' don't set it lower then 300 seconds. - - > Basic Options dropdown > Advanced Options option - - - - You can set your Color Config here - - - > Firewall workaround (for firewalls only, set a port that you can connect to, typicaly 59, 80, or 113. You will need to test this. Firewalls are known to cause many problems.) - > 'File Server Triggers' Tab - - - check 'Enabled' box and '/CTCP trigger' - - - set access mode to 'Voiced and Opped users' - - - check 'Respond to !list' - - > Add button - - - Enter Trigger text: Insert your Trigger text. make the exclamation point '!' the first character - - - Choose Welcome File: Just click 'Cancel' for the default message. - - - Browse for Folder: point it to your fserv directory - - - Now uncheck 'All channels' and type #srwg into the top box and click 'Add' - - - Either asign a specifc message too the fserv here, or Assign a generic one in the server config tab Feel free to play with these settings, setting up a TDCC is very similar to setting up an Fserv, you just set a specifc file instead of a file path. Fservs behind Firewall/Router If you are behind a firewall/Router, you most likely won't be able to access other firewalled Fservs. There are ways to enable port fowarding but this is fairly advanced stuff. Polaris If you are using polaris, here is a site on how to set up an fserv, and to make use of silent ads and ctcp triggers with this script. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://animem...orials/polaris/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FAQ written by -Daichi :) Thanks a lot for reading! |
